CLIMATE CHANGE - HYPOTHETICAL CONVERSATION
As part of art exhibition ‘Change Climate Change’ the Bond Street Event Centre will be staging an exciting and thought-provoking event exploring one of the most pressing challenges of our time — climate change — through a local lens: How do we make Gippsland carbon neutral? The evening will centre around a dynamic hypothetical discussion, bringing science, community, and creativity together.
Hosted by well-known local figure Darren McCubbin as the facilitator, the hypothetical will feature panel members each taking on a unique role to explore potential pathways and challenges in transitioning Gippsland to a carbon-neutral future. Expect a lively and engaging format that makes this serious topic accessible, informative, and fun.
Darren McCubbin states, 'Imagine this: the local coal power station — a giant of the past — is shutting down. The methane-belching landfill? Next on the list. The future looks greener... but the real decisions are just beginning.
A farmer steps forward, offering their land not only for a cutting-edge Direct Air Capture system (let’s call it The D.A.C Pack), but also a cluster of new wind turbines spinning hope into the sky. It sounds like a climate win — but what about the emissions created to build all this new infrastructure? Is the carbon cost worth the long-term gain?
In this lively hypothetical, you'll step into the shoes of activists, community leaders, industry players, and everyday citizens as we debate, argue, and navigate the complex trade-offs of real-world climate action. Big decisions, big emotions, and a fair bit of friendly chaos await'.
Adding depth to the evening, Julie Mielke’s concurrent art exhibition on climate change, will provide a powerful visual backdrop to the discussion and further highlighting the theme of environmental awareness.
