INFORMATIVE HISTORY TALK-
The Bond Street Event Centre is excited to invite you to a compelling evening with military historian and local author Ross Jackson who will be delivering a fascinating talk on the Battle of Fromelles during World War I.
On July 19, 1916, the Australian Imperial Force undertook its first major action in France, launching a frontal assault on the heavily fortified German position known as the Sugar Loaf Salient, located near the French villages of Flairbeaux and Fromelles. This harrowing battle resulted in an astonishing 5,553 Australian casualties within just 24 hours, including over 2,000 brave servicemen who lost their lives. This remains the highest loss of life for an Australian force in any conflict. Tragically, the small town of Sale in Gippsland saw eight of its own men lose their lives in this brutal encounter.
